Reinickendorf covers Berlin's northern edge, running from the dense streets bordering Wedding out to lakes, forest and garden suburbs. It's one of the more affordable districts in the city and one of the least discussed, which tends to mean less competition for the flats that come up.
The southern end around Reinickendorf and Wittenau is urban and well-served, with older apartment blocks and everyday shopping streets. Further north, Tegel sits on the Tegeler See with a waterfront promenade and a large forest behind it; the closure of Tegel Airport has opened up a substantial redevelopment site nearby. Frohnau and Hermsdorf at the northern tip are green, quiet garden suburbs of detached houses. Across the district, flats are generally larger and cheaper than comparable stock closer in.
The U6 runs the length of the district from Alt-Tegel south through Wittenau into Mitte, and the S25 and S1 serve the northern suburbs. Journeys into the centre generally take twenty-five to thirty-five minutes depending on the starting point.
Reinickendorf offers reliably good value, and the housing gets progressively more suburban as you move north. The southern end near the Wedding border has older apartment blocks at the lowest prices in the district. Wittenau and Reinickendorf-Ost are dominated by postwar estates with generous room sizes. Tegel adds waterside apartments near the lake, and Frohnau and Hermsdorf at the northern tip are garden suburbs of detached houses where flats are scarce. The former Tegel Airport site is being redeveloped as a research and housing quarter, which is likely to reshape the middle of the district over the coming years.
It suits renters who prioritise space, quiet and value over nightlife. Competition for flats is lower than in the central districts.
Roughly twenty-five to thirty-five minutes into Mitte by U6 or S-Bahn, depending on where in the district you are.

It's a practical choice. Flats are larger and cheaper than closer in, the northern parts around Tegel, Frohnau and Hermsdorf are green and quiet, and Tegeler See gives easy access to water. Schools and everyday amenities are well distributed, and the U6 keeps the commute into central Berlin around half an hour.
