South of the S-Bahn line, older Adlershof is a quieter residential area of smaller houses and prewar buildings with an established local character. Green space is plentiful — the Landschaftspark Johannisthal, a former airfield turned nature reserve, sits directly alongside, and the Spree and Köpenick's lakes are close.
Adlershof station is on the S8, S9 and S45/S46, with journeys to Ostkreuz in around ten minutes and central Berlin in twenty-five to thirty minutes. Trams connect to Köpenick and Schöneweide. The campus is compact and walkable.
Adlershof suits students, researchers and anyone working on the campus or in the surrounding technology companies — for that group it's close to ideal, with purpose-built student housing, modern flats and everything walkable. It also suits renters who want newer buildings than Berlin generally offers, with the better insulation and lower heating costs that come with them. The area is quiet and functional rather than characterful, and nightlife is minimal. The S-Bahn puts Ostkreuz ten minutes away, so being out here doesn't cut you off from the rest of the city.
